What Causes Severe Abdominal Cramps And Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Post Tubal Ligation?

Hello I am 45 years old and had a tubal about 17 yrs ago, around 02-14-15 I suspected I might be pregnant, I have 2 children and had all the symptoms of a pregnancy including 2 missed periods, during this time I had some light spotting it only happened occasionally, I also had some sharp stabbing pains on the lower right side of my abdomen, then over that weekend I started having severe cramping and severe blood loss along with large clots, when I got in the shower blood and large clots came running down my legs, my question is if I had a miscarriage what are the odds this will happen again, this also happened about 5 yrs ago, both of the men I was with were very fertile, the second one has 5 children. Should I seek medical help, and if so do I have the option of a tubal reversal.

Hello,

Post tubal ligation, 1 out of every 200 women become pregnant. Tubal ligation also poses risk of ectopic pregnancy. Whenever you have missed period that extends to two months you should always get clinically examined by a gynecologist and get urine / blood test done to confirm pregnancy. Your gynecologist may suggest you to get USG done for uterus and tubes. Get clinically assessed.

Symptoms of miscarriage is heavy bleeding associated with cramps. If you had a miscarriage you may need D and C done. Yes, seek medical help. If its miscarriage you will be accordingly managed and in case its not then such symptoms can be due to polyp, fibroid, endometriosis , etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
