What Causes Severe Abdominal Cramps During Postpartum Menstruation?

I had a baby 9 months ago, a month or two after I had him, when I would have my period, I would get a very painful cramp in one ovary, but only on my periods. Since then that has stopped. But now, I am missing periods. I missed Marchs period and now June, but I m cramping. But not pregnant. Should I be worried or is it from having a baby 9 months ago?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.

Your symptoms could be due to lactational amenorrhea. Pregnancy, childbirth & breast feeding have much impact on women's menstrual cycle. It is absolutely normal to experience irregular periods or delayed periods or no periods at all for 6 to 12months. Also changes in the frequency and volume of your period after pregnancy are possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
