What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Clumpy Discharge During Periods?

My husband and I decided to try for a baby. During my entire ovulation week, we tried a few times a day. About 2 DPO I started getting some period like cramps, but I knew it was too early to start. I had about 2 more weeks to start. Since then, I ve been having sharp pains, lots of brown clumpy discharge before and after the time my period was supposed to be here. I am now 5 days late, but finally started at about 9am this morning. It was VERY heavy, and had a lot of clotting. It is now about 11pm and it seems to already be disappearing. Is my period over? Also for the last two days I ve had SEVERE pain that feels just like hunger pains, but I get it even right after I have something to eat. It s almost bringing me to tears & I don t know what to do..

Hello,
Your symptom description gets me to suspect that you may have had a chemical abortion. The pains and the clumpy discharge are suggestive of uterine irritability and abnormal hormonal balance. You can confirm the pregnancy, if present, through an estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres, since they take some time to decline even after an abortion and hence remain higher. Severe pains are also felt at the time of the abortion. A sonogram of the pelvis and a clinical exam will help to clarify. Hope this helps.
