What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Sensitivity In Breasts During Periods?

Thank you for your help. For many years when it is my cycle I have extreme pain on just 1 side of my stomach. But what is odd to me is over the last year, I have started amd bled only for 2 days and then stopped for a hole day and then started with a heavy flow and that is when the pain starts. It hurts so badly I don t want to move.I have called my obgyn and her nurse treats me like it is no big deal and I am over reacting. It doesn t feel normal to me. Before I start, my boobs get really sensitive and my mood changes. My husband can tell that I m fixing to start because I get really moody. Are these signs I need to worry about something? It has been several years since I have had a pap smear due to the cost.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain with menstruation and tender breasts are to a certain extent normal and this is due to the hormonal changes that happen during this time.
In some cases, patients may feel more pain and discomfort and more moody. This may be due to dismenorrhea which is a term that includes these physical symptoms and mood changes that associate the menstruation.

Generally, this is not a dangerous condition and does not have any serious underlying cause. To help with the symptoms, you may try combined oral contraception pills for a few months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
