What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain On The Right Side?

My mother is 82 and has been having severe abdominal pain on her right side. It started out to be occasionally and when she was standing. Now they are coming more frequently even when she is lying down. She s had 2 different types of CT scans, xrays, and a colonoscopy and all the tests are negative. They now want her to get an xray of her hip. She has a very small kidney stone that she has had for years which hasn t moved or become larger so they ruled that out. I would like her to have a full body MRI. Is that something you would recommend? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Severe abdominal pain on the right side is commonly due to appendicitis, kidney or gall stones, IBD, hernia, ovarian torsion, PID, endometriosis, etc.

Get her physically examined. Let her have total health check-up done with all the required blood workouts & investigations (X-ray, CT, CAT, MRI).

Her treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. It may be treated by medications or surgery depending upon the severity.

You can give antacids, PPI's or spasm, when needed to get relieved from pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
