What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain When My Sugar Levels Are High?

I am a type one diabetic. I usually struggle to keep sugar levels down to where they should be but periodically I crash. I have been in the 40 s numerous times and have into the upper 20 s twice. When I have been in the 20 s it was accompanied with severe abdominal pain. What causes that pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Abdominal pain can be due to hyperglycemia. Pain is due to bloating, distension may lead to nausea or vomiting. This is a GI disorder called gastroparesis due to poor glycemic control. Enteric neuropathy causes poor intestinal motility, secretion and absorption leading to discomfort & pain.

Take food low in fat, chew food properly, stay adequately hydrated, do regular exercises, avoid constipation, take smaller quantity of food multiple times. Take Omeprazol and Spasmol if required.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
