What Causes Severe Abdominal Swelling?

What can I do to remedy swollen abdomen? I have been taking a generic protonix for some years, but in the last few days My abdomen has become incredibly swollen.. I saw a physician yesterday who told me that I should contact my principal doctor and get a cat scan of my pelvi,s abdominal and chest regions.. That is not helping me at this moment and the pain is considerable. Is there any thing I can do to modify the situation. Breathing is not easy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

Here for abdominal swelling ascites, intestinal obstruction, severe constipation, peritonitis like causes has to be ruled out...

If needed USG done and if still higher investigation needed than CT scan done for that

According to cause specific treatment given

Your clinical history also taken in detail esp. Regarding liver affection, cardiac and Renal affection etc....

If fluid accumulation present than for ascites diuretic also prescribed

Hence it's all upon your physical examination that will decide further work up plan

Consult physician for examination first with keeping all this in mind

Take care
