What Causes Severe Ankle Pain While Having Vascular Disease?

Yesterday my left ankle started to ache but not swollen. I don t recall hurting it or twisting, or falling. I have had vascular disease and am wondering if the pain could be related to that? It hurts more when I am lying down or when sitting proping it up. Ice hasn t helped. I took two Advil about 9:30 am and that helped and about 2 I took an Aleive.

Hello,

In my opinion, you should first consult an orthopaedic doctor and get done a clinical examination, X-ray and MRI of the left ankle. This will identify if there is any bone or muscle or tendon related injury.

If all these are normal then no need to worry much. Just take a simple painkiller like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen, avoid excessive weight bearing, apply warm water pad on affected areas and you will be alright in 2-3 days.

A vascular cause is less likely in your case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
