What Causes Severe Back Pain In An 18 Year Old?

My 18 yr old was having back pain, X-ray showed an extra rib in the lumbar area, 2 fused vertebrae and a curvature. The PA said it wasn t the source of her pain and referred her to PT. Should I have her see a Specialist, I wasn t,t there but am concerned that the PA it made out to be nothing. It doesn´t sound like nothing to me.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Fused vertebrae can cause nerve compression and excruciating pain. Do an MRI scan for a better clinical picture. You have to consult an orthopaedician or a spine specialist and he will direct you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
