My mom (88) is experiencing severe back pain and has been to her physician (PA) three times in the past 2 weeks plus a 5-hour wait in the ER. They ordered numerous tests all of which were all negative i.e. urine analysis, blood work, ex-rays, cat scan, electrocardiogram etc. The only thing they discovered was blood in her urine. She is also having problems with bladder control. Could she possibly be experiencing a bladder or a kidney problem? She has a very high tolerance for pain and has been complaining for 2 weeks. She can hardly stand or walk without excruciating pain. Her PA prescribed muscle relaxers and Motrin since is already on a 25 mg pain patch (fentanyl) and hydrocodone for her arthritis and pain from an old fracture. The pain has subsided some since taking the Motrin but she is still in pain. I might add that she only weighs 75 pounds. Her doctor told her they can t find anything wrong with her and told her to go to the ER if she can t stand the pain. She lives in a small town and they have limited resources. After calling her PA again, the PA ordered an MRI for mom, but since the truck only comes town on Thursdays mom has to wait until then. What do you suggest?
