What Causes Severe Bleeding Soon After An Minor Injury?
My son will be 50 in June. He is very overweight, diagnosed with rhuemetoid arthritis in the fall of 2014. He is on several medications now. But if he hits his arm accidentally against a door, counter or whatever he just starts bleeding. He is not on any blood thinners. What could be wrong?
Your son is obese and has history of rheumatic arthritis. He has severe bleeding after minor injury. His symptoms may be indicative of developing blood disorders like hemophilia, purpura, etc. It can also occur as a side effect of certain medicines he might be taking, he should not take blood thinners. Vitamin K deficiency also causes bruising easily and excess bleeding. He is suggested to get clinically examined by a GP.
He should get all required tests and investigations done so that it can be diagnosed early and treatment gets started. He should maintain healthy weight, he should do regular exercises and walking, it will help to keep RA pain under control. He should take home made balanced diet, include food that is rich in vitamin K in the regular diet. He should stay away from addictions, stress and anxiety, take adequate sleep.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
