What Causes Severe Bruise And Pain In Ankle After An Injury?

Hi. I may have broken a metatarsal in my right foot by twisting my ankle and bearing my body weight on it. This happened about 40 hours ago. I was on my feet a lot today and the pain has subsided somewhat but the bruising (initially just on the out side of my foot) has worsened with a bruise mirroring that on the inside of the foot running about 15mm above the arch., there is also some bruising at the tops of the toes. I can weight bare and fully articulate all my toes the only time any real pain is present is if I articulate the ankle joint in the direction it originally twisted - would this suggest possible ligament damage/bad sprain rather than a broken metatarsal?
