What Causes Severe Chapped, Itchy And Swollen Lips?

My lips have been itching a lot for the past week. The corners have small cuts that hurt. My lips are severely chapped even though I put on chapstick(vaseline as well) daily. My lips seem a little bit swollen as well. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of chapped lips along with cracked corners that is known as Angular Chelitis with slight swelling of lips can be due to causes like Severe dehydration, allergies, Deficiencies of iron and Vitamin B12, bacterial or Fungal infection etc..
I would suggest you to contonue to apply thick coat of Petroleum jelly over the lips or bees wax containing lip balm as they lock moisture and lubricate the lips..
You can do cool compresses over the lips..
You can also take a multivitamin tablet daily..
You can apply a combination of antibiotic and antifungal ointment at the corners of lips..
Avoid lip licking or lip sucking as it further evaporate moisture from the lips..
Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration..
You should also prevent exposure of the lips to Dry and very cold or very hot air..
Maintain a proper hygiene..
In case if there is still no improvement in a month consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and a clinical evaluation and testing for infection can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
