What Causes Severe Chest Pain With History Of Undergoing Hernia Surgery And Lumpectomy?

In 1987 I had emergency hernia surgery. They said my intestines were being strangulated in the hole in my diaphragm. In 2005 I had a lumpectomy. I had radiation but not chemo. Now I get sharp chest wall spasms. Sometimes it's so bad I think i am having a heart attack.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear user,

I really understand your concern.

Based on your medical history about lumpectomy, although I don't know if this lesion was benign or malignant ("good" or "bad" tumor) I guess that this may be the cause of your complain, such as metastatic lesion.

Also reocurrence of hernia may be a problem that may cause your chest pain.

I will recommend to see your Family Physician to rule out these and chest pain due to heart diseases. He may ask you if you have felt this chest pain years ago and how severe was. Also may order X-ray and ECG.

All the best!
