What Causes Severe Cold Along With Red Spots On The Abdomen?
My daughter, age 15, has had a nasty cold, no fever but hot and cold feeling and she now has a bad cough which means that it keeps her awake at night. Over the last two weeks she has, never having had any skin problems ever before, developed pale red spots (but not perfectly round, some more long and some round) on her stomach and inside of arms. Over the last few days more have appeared. I have started to get her to use E45 cream. They are not bright red and some of them have a tiny white bit in the middle of them. I have looked on the internet at all the obvious skin rashes and I can t see anything that they could be. She stayed off school, then felt much better but now is going to be off again tomorrow. Please could you tell me if they could be due to the virus that I think she has? Many thanks, Kathy

Hello,
A typical history of cold and rash (red ring like with central clearing) is suggestive of viral or bacterial infection. In most cases, the course of illness last a week long. After which, the rash and cold subsides by itself without the need of medical intervention.
It is good to keep the patient away from school, till she feels better and give her over the counter flu medication. Application of calamine lotion will help calm down the rash. In addition, you must keep an eye on the rash, take her body temperature thrice a day, notice if she have any swollen neck glands and sore throat.
If any of the above mentioned symptoms appear or current symptoms worsen, consider seeing a GP to get blood workup, examination and antibiotics if needed.
