What Causes Severe Constipation In An Infant While On Nan Pelargon?

Hi my 13 days old baby is on formula specifically NAN PERLAGON I m not breastfeeding, so he is always constipated, the nurse at the clinic said I must try warm water between feeds, I did but still he is struggling to pass stools, please help. .what can I do, must I change formula or there is other way of reliving constipation, thanks

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child is having symptoms of severe constipation while on Nan Pelargon which could be due to many reasons such as due to decreased gastric motility, inadequate intake of fluids and fiber rich diet, eating a lot of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, and some medications. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. You should start with drinking a lot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement, osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity.
