What Causes Severe Constipation With Fever And Cramping?

Hello, I haven t been going to the bathroom regularly, two days ago, It hit me hard to the point I had a fever, cramping and bloating and not being able to pass gas. I took several laxatives without much success. I went one time yesterday morning a little, I am able to urinate. I Haven t gone today, have been intentionally eating light. I m concerned I might have another episode like Monday night, with the fever, chills, and extreme cramping. Can you advice please?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of severe constipation with fever and cramping which could be due to many reasons such as eating a lot of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, some medications like antidepressants, acidity and certain conditions like hypothyroidism. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement psyllium, calcium polycarbophil , osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity . You should start with drinking alot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals.
