Hello,

persistent cough after the symptoms of a respiratory tract infection have subsided is common and may last for weeks. In most cases the patient suffers an annoying cough at first which gets better as time goes by but may persist for up to 8 weeks.

Perhaps you can help yourself with a short course of acetyl-cysteine which is a mucolytic agent - unless you're allergic to it. This drug may help your lungs to produce more -and less thick - phlegm.

I don't believe there's something wrong with it. It's just annoying. If you develop fever or other symptoms then you'll have to visit a doctor for re-assessment.

I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Kind Regards,
Dr Panagiotis Zografakis
