What Causes Severe Cough After Taking Levaquin For Sinus Infection?

i was diagnosed with a sinus infection and fluid on both ears on Monday. The doctor put me on Levaquin. My cough has continued to get worse, having a severe coughing attack at least every hour which produces (usually) clear phlegm. I take lisinoprol and wonder if I should stop since this could be a contributing factor. Also, being day 6, shouldn t this be resolving?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe cough after taking Levaquin for sinus infection which means you are suffering from condition known as chronic sinusitis. It seems to me that the infection has spresd down the respiratory track due to post nasal drip or severe cough occur due to lung infection or COPD. It could be due to infection in lymph nodes as well eustachian tube dysfunction as well. I would suggest you to take nasal decongestant sprays, Antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Co amoxiclav is best treatment option. You should take steam inhalation. Avoid intake of outside food. Visit ENT specialist as well as pulmonologist and get it examined. Go for paranasal sinus X ray and get puncture and drainage of sinus if required. You can go for surgical reconstruction of opening after proper prescription. Do warm saline gargles and taking steam will be helpful.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
