What Causes Severe Cough And Breathlessness?

Severe cough to the point of gagging a lot of trouble breathing out then in unless while coughing painful to try and get breath back the more I tried to get breath back the more I want to cough to the point I feel like passing out from the lack of oxygen my lungs hurt I have coughed so much that my muscles in my stomach are sore

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe cough and breathlessness which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection. The infection is probably a strep throat. I would suggest you to start with course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Avoid giving cold beverages. You should take mast cell stabilizers to prevent from infection. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin at least for 10 days along with mucolytic agents. Doctor may also refer you to chest specialist. Go for complete blood count. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest.
