Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Been coughing for couple of weeks. Started coughing up what looked like a white string. Was having a hard time spitting it out so I grabbed and it broke in half. Was able to cough the rest out. Say it was about a foot long. Curious what this might be.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe cough and white phlegm which is due to lungs infection and upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to panic about it. I would suggest you to avoid allergens such as environment pollutants. You should take steam inhalation with vaporizers. Avoid cold beverages and keep sipping warm water. Take combination of antihistamine and oral antibiotic such as Bactoclav for 3 days. If the symptoms are not improving in spite of the treatment you may need Lab investigations like CBC, sputum examination and Chest X ray. This will help to identify the problem. You should go for respiratory function test as well and start treatment as per diagnosis.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
