Hi I am taking mirtazipine and gabapentin along with co-codamol and ibruprofen but have a really bad dry chesty cough that is keeping me awake throughout the night with no relief. The pharmacist said to avoid cough suppressant medicine and to speak to my doctor first but can t get an appointment for over a week! Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

Severe dry chesty coughing should be investigated thoroughly for the underlying cause since gabapentin and mirtazapine never cause this or not related to it.

Here, your cough could be due to acute bronchitis, allergic bronchitis or upper respiratory infection etc.

So,You should undergo routine blood investigations and X- ray chest to rule out any other pathology of lung or respiratory tract.

You will require full course of antibiotics (quinolones preferably) with anti-inflammatory (continue co-codamol and ibuprofen) and antiallergic (antihistamines or steroids) with supportive treatment.

Consult Physician or pulmonologist for further advise if dry cough remains for longer.

Regards,
