I also wheeze, have shortness of breath, pain in my chest, left rib cage, and under my chest. This cough has been continuing for around 3 weeks, almost 4 now. Hi,

Based on your symptoms, you may have a respiratory infection, such as bronchitis or pneumonia. The cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest pain are all common symptoms of these conditions. The involuntary shakes you are experiencing could be a result of the coughing fits, which can cause muscle spasms and contractions.

It is important to follow up with your healthcare provider, especially since your symptoms have been continuing for several weeks despite treatment with cough syrup and an inhaler. Your healthcare provider may recommend additional testing, such as a chest x-ray, to rule out any underlying conditions.

In the meantime, you can try to ease your symptoms by:
- Staying hydrated with plenty of fluids
- Resting and getting enough sleep
- Avoiding irritants, such as smoke or pollutants
- Using a humidifier to moisten the air
- Taking over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen, to alleviate chest pain and discomfort
If your symptoms worsen or you experience difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get all required blood workouts, imaging tests (X-ray chest, CT, MRI done), get swab test, sputum examination done. The tests and investigations will detect the type of RTI and the seriousness of the infection, like bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, COPD, etc.

Your treatment will depend on the pathology diagnosed and the severity of its symptoms. You will be treated with antibiotics(Augmentin), analgesics, supplements like multivitamin. At present you can take antihistamine at bed time to reduce the symptoms caused due to allergy.

Use room humidifiers, give voice rest and take liquid or semi solid diet so that you don't hurt your throat mucosa. Keep cough lozenges in your mouth and take sips of water throughout the day. Stay well hydrated and stay away from addictions if any. Since you are suffering from 3 weeks it may take time to get better.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
