What Causes Severe Cough When Diagnosed With COPD?

Hi. My husband is 58 years old. He has been a heavy smoker for many years. He has a nasty cough and coughs up a lot of mucus. His finger nails are bluish. He was always thin but not has a larger belly. He drinks at least 8 beers every night. He has blood in his fecal matter. He has difficulty walking farther than 10 feet. He gets out of breath when he eats. bathes, or gets dressed. He has been diagnosed with copd. I am trying to find things to help him feel better, but at this point don t know what to do.

Hi welcome to the health care magic

Your husband diagnosed with COPD...

Bluish nail suggestive of cyanosis and peripheral tissue anoxia...

Dyspnea after walking small distance suggestive there might be right sided heart failure...

You are recommended to consult pulmonologoist and get investigate with EKG and spirometry

Spirometry will help in assess severity and guiding further treatment

You might prescribed ipratropium bromide like inhaler and diuretic for heart failure if present

Physiotherapy and exercise advisable

Take care

Consult pulmonologoist for examination
