What Causes Severe Cough With Breathing Difficulty?

I have been coughing quite a lot in the past month. The cough started off dry and often, but lately it has become more wet and less often, but some nights, I cough so much it s hard to fall asleep. I especially feel a need to cough when I yawn or breath through my mouth- which also makes it hard to take a deep breath sometimes (I must mention, I have no difficulty breathing otherwise- even while exercising). I have no other symptoms at all, not even a sore throat. What could it be?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe cough with breathing difficulty which is a sign of respiratory tract infection along with pulmonary wheezing.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to use room humidifier and vapor rub that will give benefits to you. Steam inhalation is very effective along with short course of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin or azithromycin for 5-7 days along with Antihistamine such as Chlorpheniramine. You should use throat lozenges and go rinses with warm saline water. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. Visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. Get chest X-ray done and start treatment after proper diagnosis.
