What Causes Severe Cough With Wheezing?

I am a 25 year old male and have been coughing for the past week and really bad wheezing. I also feel like i have lots of mucus in my throat and i keep coughing it up but still feels like its there. I wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I ve been runing all night and need to suck in air. I use an albuteral inhaler and it helps really well. today I feel pain by my collar bone. is this a flu or allergy?

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to an upper airway infection. An allergic reaction can not be excluded either.

For this reason, I would recommend performing a sinus X ray study for possible sinus infection and some other tests:

- a chest X ray study
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- a throat discharge bacterial culture
- allergy tests if all the above tests result normal.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka
