Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Cramping, bloating, diarrhea With Bloody Mucus Anal Discharge?
Last night I experienced severe cramping, bloating, and diarrhea, there was a bit of bloody mucous on the tissue. I have had some cramping throughout day, becoming worse. When I went to the bathroom there was (just) blood in the toilet, then a few minutes later returned and had extremely soft light coloured stool. All accompanied by severe cramping. I m just wondering if I leave it until Monday or go into the emerge department.
Probable causes of abdominal cramping with blood in stools could be inflammatory bowel disease includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn's, ischemic colitis, bacterial infections that include E.coli, Salmonella, Shigella, and Campylobacter, colon polyps, or colon cancer.
Few tests that are required to arrive at a specific diagnosis are complete blood picture, stool examination, stool culture and if necessary, colonoscopy. So please do consult a gastroenterologist as soon as possible. You don't need to go to ER just take an appointment with gastroenterologist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
