What Causes Severe Cramps And Large Clotting After Sexual Intercourse?

Hey doc, I had sexual intercourse with my partner this morning and have had very bad cramps since and just discovered large clotting! I feel very sore and in quite a bit of pain there. I don t get periods so to discover bleeding really alarmed me! I have not had them for going on 4/5years now, I m 23. There was a few clots between the size of a 5p and 10p! I am also not on any birth control at present as we have been discussing trying for a baby. This is uncomfortable though and the cramping is very painful. Is this normal after sex??

Hi,

Absence of periods for more than 4 to 5 years is not normal.The cause of amenorrhoea should be identified and treated. Pelvic ultrasound should be taken to rule out any uterine or ovarian dysfunction.Vaginal smear should also be taken to rule out vaginal infections.

In woman with a retroverted uterus (tilted backwards), sex can cause your uterus to move and make contact with other organs surrounding it. As a result, you may experience pain and bloating. Rarely, semen can cause stomach pain and cramping after due to prostaglandin found in semen, which can cause uterine contraction.
