What Causes Severe Diarrhea Along With Elevated Heart Rate?

I had severe diarrhea, racing heartrate, felt faint, sweaty, felt like I was going to die. Did not eat anything that my husband did not eat and he was not ill. Ate nothing new. Took all day to ease up. B/P went up and down (160/95 to 100/60). I got so weak I could not raise my hands. What in the world was happening?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

That can be due to cholera. Is it watery diarrhea like rice water? Stool should be changed for the infective cause. That much diarrhea leads to fluid depletion in the body and lowers the blood pressure which makes you dizzy and fatigue and as compensatory mechanism heart. Try to perfuse the vital organs so heart rate is increasing. Start ORS, tablet oflox, ornidazole, tablet sporolac Ds. Use the oral rehydration solution at least 3 lit/ day minimum or start taking iv fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
