What Causes Severe Difficulty In Breathing When Diagnosed With Barrett S Esophagus?

I have Barrett s Esophagus, I ve been taking Nexium for years. My last prescription was changed to a generic brand called Esomeprazole Mag Dr. I had a serious bacteria infection last year for 6 months, 3 months to recover when I took Cipro to clear the bacteria. About 7 weeks ago, about when I started taking this new generic brand, I developed heavy breathing problems, no energy and not feeling good. I went to the doctor, to the hospital, to a infection specialist and I am now taking an antibiotic called Azithromycin, 500mg. This after taking Cipro again. Does not seem to be a bacteria. Could this new generic medication be causing my problems and should I call my Gastro. on Monday?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello,

Barrett 's esophagus can cause microaspiration and this can lead to bronchitis (inflammation of airways). This bronchitis can ultimately lead to breathing difficulty.

So in my opinion, you should definitely consult pulmonologist and get done a clinical examination of the respiratory system, chest X-ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).

You may need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone). Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
