What Causes Severe Discomfort In The Lower Back?

My husband is 46yrs old. approx. 1 hr. ago he started having severe discomfort from his lower to mid-back which is resonating through his abdomen, or vice verse?? He said he can t say which hurts more. He can not get comfortable in any position. He has taken 3 Alieve, Pepto-Bismo, and Gas-Ex.. He thought it was gas but also said he s never felt this way before. Please advise as to what it could be.

it can be renal calculi . ultrasound is requered to diagnose and locate the problem. with report consult urosurgeon for examination and advise on treatment.
