What Causes Severe Discomfort While Having The Bowel Movements?

I had some changes in bowel pattern, mainly gas I feel is dispersing in my abdomen below my rib cage and not out anus. I have no pain just more sluggish bowel movements though I go at least and usually two times a day. No known family history though not all uncles or great grandfather are known.

Hi

If your symptoms are for less then 2 weeks, very likely you are going through a viral infection and having more fluids and avoiding spicy or fatty food and also avoiding coffee and alcohol during this time might be helpful.
If the symptoms are for more then 2 weeks they you may need some tests like stool for ova and parasites, stool antigen for giardia, and stool culture to rule out some infections as the cause of the symptoms.

If all examinations are normal then irritable bowel syndrome can be considered and in this case adding some fiber in the diet and treatment for anxiety might be helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
