What Causes Severe Dizziness And Muscle Spasms In The Calves?
Hello, I m a 53 year old woman. I m in generally good health and don t take any medications other than occasional allergy med (not recently) or excedrine for occasional headach. As of about a week ago, I ve had a couple of Charlie horses in my calve in the early morning hours. They went away with no lingering problem. Last night, early this morning, I woke to go to the restroom and was extremely dizzy when I sat up. Once stable, I walked to the bathroom but had to hold onto furniture to keep from falling over. I stayed home from work and slept. I feel better now but have slight dizziness if I lay down or change my head position. Should I worry if this resolves itself by tomorrow?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Sushant's Response
Hello, In my opinion these spells of dizziness may be due to elevated blood pressure or decreased blood sugar levels. It's advisable to get your blood pressure and sugar levels checked. However changes in head posture affecting dizziness might point to a pathology in the ear. It is advisable to see an ENT doctor.
