What Causes Severe Dizziness, Feeling Faint And Shaking?

hi, I had a pretty violent dizzy spell a few days ago which had left me feeling wobbly and shaky. I never actually fainted but my head turned to lead and wanted to dive bomb the floor. I was extremely scared and held on tight to people around me who were trying to prop me up. Is this vertigo, I read that this can cause light headedness which certainly wasn t how I felt .?

Hi,

If you had a feeling of spinning yourself or or of the the surroundings, this suggest vertigo. If it was only a feeling of lightheadedness and tendency to fall, and no spinning, this indicates syncope.

Syncope can happen when we stand/walk for sometime in a dehydrated state or inadequate fluid intake. Vertigo happens when there is disturbance in ear or its connections in brain.

Either of these, if single and transient, need not be worried about. If recurring, kindly see your doctor for evaluation. Meanwhile keep regular and healthy diet and drink enough fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
