Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Dry Mouth, Chapped Lips, Extreme Thirst, Headaches And Fatigue?
I have never had any problems like this before. For the last month and a half though I have had severe cotton/dry mouth, chapped lips, extreme thirst, weird headaches on the sides of my head due to dehydration feeling. I have also had extreme fatigue and when I wake up in the middle of the night I feel drunk or on drugs. I also seem to have to pee every second all day. The problem with this is that as soon as I figured out that there was an issue I just thought I was dehydrated. So for the month and a half I have been drinking way over the needed ounces of water than needed... strait water, water with lemon and cucumber, water with himalayan salt for minerals and electrolytes. I have also been juicing for minerals and liquid. I originally thought when this was first going on that I was mineral deficient but I don't think that's it now. I have also checked blood sugar for a week during this and my levels were in the low of normal. Not high or too low. Do you have any suggestions about what I should look into or talk to doctors about checking me for?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns. As per your complain it seems that dry mouth, excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, are all pointing towards Diabetes Mellitus. As the symptoms of frequent urination, excess thirst, weight loss and dry mouth are most commonly seen in case of Diabetes Mellitus, therefore you should consult a General Physician or a Diabetologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to get blood sugar levels CA both fasting and post meal along with Glycosylated Hemoglobin levels HbA1c checked.
In case if the blood sugar levels and higher than normal range then you can be advised Oral Hypoglycemic drugs to bring the blood sugar levels to normal range. Along with it dietary modifications like curbing intake of refined carbohydrates, doing moderate workout and taking appropriate rest and avoiding stress can help.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further
