General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
While driving from height, there is sudden change in pressure on middle ear which causes pain in ear. Such pain mostly goes as the person is out of water and pressure in middle ear comes back to normal. But if it does not, that indicates some problem in eustachian tube (tube joining nasal passage and the tympanic membrane). Such cases may be relieved by decongestants over the counter or nasal sprays. If the problem is not solved within 3-5 days, there is need to consult an ENT specialist for possible injury to ear drum / infection. Please consult an ENT doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
