Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My three year old son has all of a sudden developed severe eczema. He has been itching a lot and I have already seen the doctor and he has been prescribed an ointment for this. The other night he was coughing and it sounded croupey but he hasn t really coughed like that since. He has a lot of mucus coming out of his nose which is of a light yellow/green colour. He also has watery eyes and is breathing through his mouth. He seems very tired and drowsey today although he went to bed later than usual as he wouldn t settle and was up for an hour or so early this morning and slept in until 8.30am. I just took his temperature with a digital thermometer and his temperature was 34.2. Could this be just hay fever which goes hand in hand with eczema, your garden variety cold or do you think it could be something more sinister and maybe a trip to the doctors is necessary?
A rectal temperature of 34.2C is nor normal. I am not sure if this is due to the thermometer not functioning well or your child has lower body temperature than the norm. It is best to have him checked and confirm his temperature and this is even more important due to his age and also the lack of energy that he is experiencing.
I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
