What Causes Severe Fatigue Along With Chest Congestion And Cough?

I’ve been sick the past 2weeks with the flu (or what I believe to be the flu). Extreme fatigue, sleeping & hours for about 4 days then congestion in my chest and sinuses along with serious coughing. I’ve been taking Amoxicillin along with cough syrup and Alkaline Seltzer Plus for severe cough & cold. I am still feeling very tired and still coughing. I have also had diarrhea for the last couple of days. I have not seen my Dr., I’m just self-medicating. Does this sound like that new flu strain going around?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, it looks like flu and it may well be flue. However the persistence of the sickness should alert us to other possible causes. Whether a new strain or super added infection or may be a bacterial respiratory infection not responding to the amoxicillin. So I would advise now to see a doctor so to see your in more detail and make a plan for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
