What Causes Severe Fatigue And Excessive Sleepiness?

I have been quite fatigued the last several days. All I want to do is sleep! I am a highly active 67 year old male, 5 10 160 lbs who every day either; (1) weight trains with a trainer; (2) runs a 5K; (3)plays 4.5 level singles tennis;(4) takes a yoga class. I also work a 45+ hour week as a college professor, trustee, and director. Work has been busier than normal since the start of the year. I eat a Mediterranean type diet. 6 years ago i had 2 stents inserted in right artery to alleviate blockage. My cardiologist continues to give me a complete clean bill of cardio health. 6 months ago I had a kidney stone blasted away. Recently, I have once again noticed blood in my urine on occasion - possibly a sign of another stone? Otherwise my physical health is excellent as is my mental, emotional and spiritual health. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, thereis no reason to be worried and usually this is just temporary and self limiting. Excessive daytime sleepiness is common issues and should be considered in this case..
Excessive daytime sleepiness may be caused by conditions such sleep deprivation, metabolic disturbances, sleep apnoea, medications, neurological disorders such seizures and psychiatric disorders such depression. If emotional causes are ruled out then some tests can be done to confirm the diagnosis.

In my opinion, polysomnography ( sleep study ), is one of the necessary examinations in order to achieve a correct diagnosis.
Please discuss with primary care Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
