I m having L foot pain x 4-5 wks at area of 3rd, 4th, & 5th metatarsal distal to toes (almost to my ankle) which worsens with weight bearing, causes mild-mod edema by end of the day, and feels similar to when I broke my 5th metatarsal (Jones fracture) on my other foot. I had an x-ray done last week that showed no fracture. I also have a different type of chronic L foot pain from L5-S1 herniated disc w/sciatica, but it feels very different from the new pain (that chronic pain feels more like I stepped on a large nail driven upwards through middle of the sole of my foot, for which I manage successfully with Lyrica). I had no specific incident that caused the new 3/4/5th metatarsal pain, just progressively worsened in some slightly-compressive shoes, which I now can t wear comfortably. My question: Could this new pain be related to a progression of foot pain from my L5-S1 disc herniation? It feels much more bone-related than soft tissue or nerve pain, but I m not sure. I m contemplating going back to my previous Orthopedic Foot Surgeon for a consult, but I m just curious what your opinion might be. Thanks (and sorry for my long-windedness)!!
