What Causes Severe Hair Loss When Diagnosed With Androgenetic Alopecia?

I am a 57 year old woman who has been diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia. I have been prescribed 50mg of spironalactone which I have been taking for the last 4 years. I live in a very cold climate and have noticed my hair seems to be thinning. Is it possible for hair to thin in the winter? Will it grow back?

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of severe hair loss when diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia which occurs mainly due to genetic makeup and due to hormonal changes. Need not to worry.

You should apply Minoxidil 5% concentration as it will lengthen the duration of active growth phase of hair follicles and it may increase the blood supply to the follicle.

You should start with the use of Finasteride combinations as it interferes with the production of male hormone which are related to cause alopecia. Yes winters are exaggerating factors for the same.

Visit dermatologist once and get it examined and start medication after proper prescription. Maintain complete hygiene. You should take multivitamins containing biotin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
