What Causes Severe Headache Along With Nausea And Fatigue?

Hi doc- I woke up today with a profound headache, nausea & fatigue. Sunlight & cologne worsening the headache. 400 mg ibuprofen only dulled it down. Worst headache ever- brought me to tears (but I have a very low pain threshold). 46 y/o and have never had a migraine in my life + do not normally have headaches. No f/hx of migraines either. I should mention I had very poor sleep 2 nights in a row. Felt like I woke with a horrible hangover yet no alcohol consumed. no sinus symptoms. Still in bed :(

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It can be migraine headache. In migraine pain is usually unilateral and throbbing pain. Nausea like component is always associated with migraine.

If Ibuprofen not effective, then Rizatriptan can be prescribed. Less sleep, smoking, stress, loud noise, etc. are precipitating factor for headache.

Take enough sleep. Consult physician for examination, if needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
