Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Headache And Nausea In A Child?
My 5 year old son has been battling a severe headache for about 24 hrs. Pain killers hardly seem to even touch it, he will sleep for 30 minutes or so and wake back up crying in pain. He has thrown up a couple times. This is not a normal thing for him. He has also been running a low grade fever. My Grandma and an aunt of mine have migraines. Mostly he complains about the pain in his forehead but then suddenly he will hold the back of his neck and say it hurts there.
However, if the child wakes up from sleep due to headache, has fever along with pain in neck and neck stiffness, emergency attention should be given as it could be a sign of infection that needs to be treated immediately.
I would advise you to visit a physician without delay for physical examination of the child along with further investigations to reach the cause of the headache. Treatment can be based on the diagnosis.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I hope your son feels better soon!
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
