What Causes Severe Headache And Puffiness In The Face?

My daughter woke up with a bad headache, I gave her 200mg ibuprofen, but, after an hour she said it didnt help.
I then gave her 2 325mg tablets of acetameophen. Now she has a puffy face. Is this a an allergic reaction. Should I take her to get treated?

hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The puffiness over face is most probably due to allergy. It could be due to acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
This type of allergy is known as Angioedema of face. You need to consult doctor as if deems or swelling will spread, it can involve airway passage and cause breathing difficulty. It can become emergency condition then.

It can be treated by

: giving tablet Cetrizine 10mg stat after prescription
: giving injection hydrocortisone after proper prescription.
: Oxygen by face mask if any breathing difficulty.
: To avoid it in future, find out the cause by undergoing allergy test or discussing it with doctor and avoiding the drug totally.

Regarding headache, if she is having recurrent complaints
: get her eye checked
: discuss ENT doctor if nasal blockade, running nose, fever, as it can be sinusitis.

Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
