What Causes Severe Headache While Cough And Sneeze?

I get a brief, intense headache when I cough, sneeze, or stand up too quickly. I have been in a training seminar for a while and have not gotten a lot of sleep the past week. I also was on roller coasters a week ago. I think I've been getting enough water.

This phenomenon of an intense headache during coughing or sneezing occurs due to a sudden increase in pressure within the head. Headaches upon standing quickly are due to sudden reduction in blood flow to the brain resulting in what we call ORTHOSTASIS. Headaches can also occur in such situations. In my patients, I usually will do an MRI and MRA on them with this complaint of headache if theu are intense and frequent enough just to rule out the presence of a pathological entity such as an aneurysm or vascular malformation.
