What Causes Severe Headache?

My daughter, age 21. Came home today with a real bad headache. We ate lunch, she said it grew worse. She said it started out like a brain freeze (before eating or drinking anything), she thought maybe the heat from the sun would help;but, it became worse. She said her jaw began to hurt and then, she felt like she was going to throw up.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In most of the cases, a headache that comes out of nowhere may be caused by simple conditions such as fatigue, stress, having insufficient sleep, food poisoning, etc. So, if this remains only one episode, there is no need to worry about. If there were other neurological symptoms such as lethargy, vision and speech issues, balance problems, then is necessary an evaluation by a Neurologist to exclude any brain conditions such as vascular malformations, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
