Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Headaches After Reducing Sugar Intake?
I ve recently started Weight Watchers. I gradually reduced my caffeine intake from 5-6 cans of Coca-Cola a day to one a week. I ve also **drastically** reduced my sugar intake. My headaches are non-stop. They wake me up at night and last all day. I don t think it is related to the caffeine since I reduced that slowly. Could it be related the sugar reduction? Or could this be a high blood pressure thing (which I just found out I had also.)
As you have mentioned that you have cut down sugar completely, it is likely that you are experiencing the headache because of hypoglycemia. It is not advisable to cut down sugar completely as it may lead to severe hypoglycemic episodes and lead to dizziness and fainting. The easiest way to diagnose it is by getting your blood sugar levels checked. Hypertension may also cause a headache. If you have high blood pressure, you will have to take antihypertensive drugs to keep it under control.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
