What Causes Severe Headaches Along With Stiffness In Neck And Vertigo?

I have a 50 year old patient with c/o headache, decreased range of motion in her neck, vertigo, hearing loss in one ear, profuse sweating, and uncontrollable eye movements. Her past medical history indicates she was in a car accident 3 days before her admission. What are the possible causes of these symptoms?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query severe headaches along with stiffness in neck and vertigo can occur due to many reasons like middle ear infection , some kind of growth in middle ear or fluid in middle ear ( Meniere's disease ) . You should not ignore this , because sometimes the condition get complicated. i would suggest you to start with antibiotics, steroids and labrynthine sedatives for 5 to 7 weeks. you should go for vestibular rehabilitation exercises. You should consult with your ENT specialist and get evaluated. Doctor may order audiometry test and tuning fork test and treat it accordingly. Avoid touching and pricking it with any sharp object. Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for for condition like cervical spondylosis .
