What Causes Severe Headaches And Numbness In The Feet?

I have a sister in Kenya with B/P @ 189/120, went to her Doctor who prescribed this medicines (NEPIF RETARD 20grams and HCTZ pills-No brand nor generic names on these meds ). She s gotten sicker and experiencing excruciating headaches and numbness in her feet especially when she lies down. What are these medicines and are they the right ones for her B/P control?

Hi,

Nepif retard is Nifedipine. It is antihypertensive drug. HCTZ is Hydrochlorthiazide. It is diuretic drug. Both are appropriate for stage 1 hypertension.

Blood pressure reading of 189/120 is classified as malignant (very severe) hypertension. This needs aggressive control of blood pressure and to achieve control double of triple antihypertensive drugs are needed.

She also needs MRI brain to rule out hypertensive complications of the brain because of a headache and numbness. So better to consult a cardiologist and discuss all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
