What Causes Severe Heartburn After Taking Antibiotics?

MY SON SAW THE DENTISIT YESTERDAY AND TOOK AN ANTIBIOTIC BEFORE HIS CLEANING DUE TO A HEART MURMUR HE HAS. AFTER TAKING THE ANTIBIOTIC HE WAS IN SEVERE PAIN FROM HEARTURN SINCE HE TOOK IT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. HE IS STILL IN PAIN WHEN HE EATS OR DRINKS WATER. COULD THIS BE PART OF GASTRISITIS? HE IS ONLY 17.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can very well understand your health concern..

As per your complain taking antibiotic on an empty stomach has lead to excessive acidity in stomach and it had lead to reflux of acid back into throat leading to heart burn and the inflammation of oesophagus leading to pain while eating and drinking...

You should consult your doctor and should not stop the intake of the antibiotic without his consent..
You should take antacid like Milk of magnesia or Calcium carbonate half an hour before all the three meals and take Pantoprazole empty stomach in morning until you are on medication..
Avoid spicy and acidic foods..
Take plenty of probiotic like Yoghurt in diet..
Drink plenty of cold water as it will help in dilution of acid as well as relieve the inflammation of food pipe causing heartburn..

Hope this information helps ..

Thanks and regards.
